For this project, I was asked to build a wall and stage with a seamless joint for shadow-free filming.
The wall is 12'H x 16'W and the floor is 16' x 16'.
Here is reverse chronological look at the process.
Ready for Filming
First Coat
Two layers of flooring. Joints taped, mudded & sanded (longest part of the job). The flooring is attached to the wall via the same framing that supports the arched wall/floor joint.
The framing is anchored to the above railing and the bottom of the wall is kept from wandering by a sandwiched bead of silicon sealant. Physically anchoring into the polished concrete floor was frowned upon.
The biggest challenge on this job was getting the materials up to the space. My client's building in Downtown L.A. has the smallest freight elevator that I have ever seen. We had to pass the 12 footers up the center of the narrow winding stairway one at a time. The drywall and plywood flooring would only fit one at a time into the elevator. Oh, and don't get me started on the narrow, winding hallway. Geeze! Listen to me. I'm such a whiner. :^) The important thing is that I got a good workout after a long party filled 4th of July weekend.
